A cold smile crossed Nina’s lips.

After Lewis left the villa, he drove to a quiet place.

He lit a cigarette and smoked in silence.

Right now, he actually felt some regret. He had agreed to divorce Athena too hastily. If she were still his wife, Bridget wouldn’t force him to make this choice. He wouldn’t have to marry a woman he didn’t like.

Lewis rubbed his face. His heart felt heavy, like a boulder was pressing down on it.

He took a deep breath and then called Athena’s number.

The call wouldn’t go through.

He had almost forgotten that Athena had blocked him. She had no lingering feelings for him whatsoever. She didn’t want to give him any chance at all.

At the suburban villa.

“Here’s to Athena’s escape from that jerk and her fresh start!” Harriet raised her wine glass high, shouting with excitement.

Earlier, she had taken the initiative to invite Zaden and Teri to dinner. Athena hadn’t been able to stop her in time, so they all ended up celebrating together. Since Kit had also helped a great deal, Athena invited him to join as well.

The dinner setup looked particularly awkward.

Zaden and Teri sat together, Harriet sat next to Athena, while Kit sat alone in the corner.

Harriet was genuinely happy. This divorce had gone incredibly smoothly.

It had taken almost no effort at all to get Athena completely free from Lewis. She was truly happy for Athena.

Harriet downed a glass of wine and burped before asking, “Athena, now that your biggest problem is solved, what’s next? Planning to go back to the hospital?”

Years ago, Athena had stepped away from her work for personal reasons.

Many people felt it was a shame. She herself probably had regrets about it too.

Now that Athena was no longer a full–time housewife, returning to the workforce made sense.

When Athena heard Harriet’s words, she fell silent for a long while.

Go back to the hospital? Can I really still do that?

Athena lowered her gaze to look at her wrist and smiled bitterly. “I’d love to, but it’s probably not possible anymore.”
