“Alright, thank you, Mr. Storm.”

Athena gave a polite, respectful nod.

Zaden’s brows knitted.

He didn’t know if he was imagining it, but after what just happened, he felt like Athena was putting up a wall between them.

Her tone was polite, but it carried the kind of distance that existed between strangers. They had never been like this before.

But it was such a minor thing that he couldn’t just go and ask Athena about it.

Zaden’s frown deepened. When Tommy walked over and saw his expression, he thought Zaden was dissatisfied with how quickly he had handled Dexter’s situation.

He quickly said, “Mr. Storm, I’ll deal with Dexter as soon as possible!”

“All right.”

Tommy got the hint and hurried off to take care of it.

The room instantly quieted down, leaving only Athena and Zaden. The atmosphere soon turned a bit stiff.

Athena cleared her throat. She glanced at her watch. With everything that happened, it was almost noon.

“Um… Mr. Storm, if it hadn’t been for you today, I probably wouldn’t have gotten out of this so easily. Please, let me treat you to lunch to thank you.”

Athena meant it simply as a gesture of thanks.

After all, there wasn’t much else she could do in return. He had helped her, so she couldn’t just let it go unacknowledged. Treating him to lunch was just the right thing to do.

Zaden’s tightly furrowed brow finally relaxed.

He nodded. “All right!”

Inside the restaurant, Athena and Zaden took their seats.

Athena found Zaden to be a true gentleman. He didn’t put the responsibility of ordering on her, nor did he try to take control and order everything himself.

He truly lived up to his status as the heir of an elite family. He must have been raised with this. kind of upbringing.

Once they finished ordering, they just waited for the food to arrive.

Athena actually felt a bit awkward. After all, it was her first time having a meal alone with Zaden. A man and a woman having lunch in private–it was the sort of thing that might give people the wrong idea.

She forced herself to quiet her wandering thoughts.

“Rachel is someone my mother picked for me to marry.”

Zaden’s voice rang out by Athena’s ear, pulling her attention back. She looked at him, surprised.

He said seriously, “I’m really not interested in any of that.”

Athena tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and said, “So that’s it. I thought she was your girlfriend. She must have misunderstood something.”

She hadn’t expected Zaden to explain all this to her.

She didn’t even have an actual relationship with him. Why would he feel the need to explain anything to her?

“I’ll talk to her about it later. I’m sorry for what happened today. I’m sorry you had to go through all that.”

“It’s alright. It wasn’t really your fault.”

Athena had been letting her thoughts run wild, but Zaden’s sincere apology made all her frustrations go away.

Now that Zaden had explained, things between them no longer felt tense, and the atmosphere grew a lot friendlier.

But Athena didn’t know that, somewhere in the restaurant, a pair of cold eyes was fixed on her.

“Lewis, look at Athena. She’s having lunch with Zaden alone. You two haven’t even been divorced that long, yet she’s already moved on to him. She never cared about you at all!
