Hugh’s mind was racing, and by the time they nearly reached the police station, he’d already made his

decision.

There was no way they could walk away from this mess clean. He had to sacrifice one person to save the whole family.

Now that he’d made up his mind, Hugh felt his panic fade a little, though he still couldn’t figure out what he was supposed to do next.

‘Looks like Tiffany won’t ever get to be Mr. West’s student after this,’ Hugh thought.

When they arrived at the police station, Hugh deliberately hung back a couple of steps, falling into step beside Aaron. He lowered his voice and said, “Aaron, you need to take the fall for this today.”

Aaron stared at Hugh, eyes wide in disbelief. “Dad, you want me to admit this?”

Hugh glanced at the four cops walking ahead, nervous, and whispered, “Just keep your voice down.”

Aaron took a deep breath. “Dad, if I take the blame for this, my life is over.”

Tiffany edged closer, overhearing Hugh and Aaron’s conversation. She couldn’t help but clench her fingers, thinking, ‘Is Dad really planning to abandon Aaron for my sake?

‘By forcing Aaron to take the blame, Dad is basically choosing to protect me at his expense.’

But Tiffany didn’t feel even a bit relieved. If anything, Hugh seemed downright frightening, and a cold chill crept into her heart.

Tiffany thought, ‘Aaron is always loyal and always by his side, but Dad doesn’t seem to care at all about their bond.

‘I wasn’t even around for twelve years. Dad probably doesn’t care much about me either. Right now, he’s only picking me over Aaron because I’m still useful to him.

If I want to never get discarded, I have to stay useful.

She took a deep breath and asked, “Aaron, what are you planning to do about this?”

Aaron looked over at Hugh. “Dad, this was all for Tiffany…”

Before he could finish, one of the cops called out, “Mr. Lawrence, come on in and give us your statement.”

Hugh just gave Aaron a long, heavy look. Then he turned and walked in after the officers.

As Hugh walked off with the cops, Tiffany stepped up to Aaron and kept her voice low. “Aaron, are you really planning to tell the police that I was the one who kidnapped Alicia?”

Aaron stared at Tiffany for a long moment before finally saying, “This was all for you.”

“Aaron,” Tiffany cut him off. “You really think I could pull off kidnapping Alicia? If the police start digging. sooner or later they’ll trace it back to Dad.

“And if Dad goes down, do you really think the Lawrence family can hold it together? Just look at the company. If the boss gets taken away, the whole business is done for.”

Aaron looked at Tiffany, honestly shocked. He’d never thought Tiffany was this sharp. She wasn’t as naïve as he’d believed. She’d known what was going on all along.

Tiffany wasn’t bothered about what Aaron thought of her anymore. She pressed on. “Aaron, if Dad goes down. our whole family’s finished. Do you really think this mess ends with him? Both of us are involved. In the end, we’ll all get dragged down. Are you really okay with letting the Lawrence family crash and burn?”

Aaron had grown up right by Hugh’s side, raised on the idea that nothing mattered more than the Lawrence family.

Hearing Tiffany lay it all out, Aaron started to waver.

Tiffany continued, “If the Lawrence family goes down, we’re toast. That’s the end for all of us. But if you take the hit, Dad and I stay clear, and the family keeps going. As long as we’re still standing, we’ll do whatever it takes to get you out.”

Aaron looked at Tiffany for a long moment. Then he finally took a deep breath and nodded. “Fine. I’ll take the fall. Just don’t let me rot in there.”

“I promise,” Tiffany replied with a confident nod.

Soon enough, the cops called them in to give their statements.

Tiffany flat-out denied everything, swearing she didn’t know a thing. Hugh backed her up, sticking to the same story. Andrew and Archie really had no clue, so the cops hit a dead end with them.

As for Aaron, after wrestling with his conscience, he finally gritted his teeth and took the fall, just like Tiffany had suggested.

The cops didn’t waste any time. They locked Aaron up right away.

At the hospital, Alicia and Harvey rushed Charles in. Before the doctors even began treating his wounds, Charles kept anxiously asking Alicia if she was hurt.

Alicia reassured him again and again, “I’m really fine. Don’t worry about me.” Only then did Charles finally relax enough to let the doctors deal with his injuries.

Charles didn’t want Alicia to get scared by his bloody wounds, so he asked Harvey, “Can you take Alicia to the police station to handle things?”

But Alicia insisted on staying. She wouldn’t leave his side until the doctors finished stitching him up, wrapped his injuries, and moved him into a hospital room. Only then did she finally feel at ease.
