She stared into the distance, her tone flat but edged with bitterness. “Everyone thinks Tiffany is the Sweetheart Queen, but the truth is, I’m the one behind all her artwork. She can’t even hold a brush, let alone paint.”
Harvey frowned, concern in his eyes. “So they took you back just to make you keep painting for her?”
“Yeah.” Alicia nodded. “Mr. West, the biggest name in the art world, came to our school looking for fresh talent. Tiffany wanted to use her Sweetheart Queen identity to become his student. But Mr. West got suspicious. My paintings matched the ones she posted online.
“So he had both of us make a new piece. I wasn’t going to be her ghost painter anymore, so they cooked up their perfect plan: make everyone think I’m dead, lock me up, and force me to keep painting for Tiffany in the shadows, like her invisible twin.”
Harvey stared in disbelief. “Come on. This isn’t some feudal era. Nowadays, we have laws and order. Who even thinks of doing stuff like this? It’s a crime. Who would dare pull something like that now?”
Alicia let out a bitter little laugh. “Who would stop them? I have no family and no one who gives a damn about me. Even if I vanished into thin air, nobody would even blink, let alone care. So what if I disappear?”
‘Law? Justice? Please. Money and power make the rules here. Last time, they played the system and won. Why would things be any different now?’ Alicia thought.
Her smirk grew colder.
Harvey listened to her words, that bitter smile tugging at his heart, and blurted out, “Do you really think nobody cares about you?”
Alicia gave Harvey a puzzled look.
Harvey cleared his throat before saying, “Charles really cares about you. When he heard you were in trouble, he was in the middle of a huge project overseas. He just dropped it all and came straight back for you.”
Alicia froze, thinking, ‘So that’s why Mr. Yates just got here to rescue me. He really wasn’t even at home. He really gave up a huge project just for me!
A fresh wave of guilt crashed over her.
Back in her previous life, Charles had been Tiffany’s shield, but he was just helping someone who had helped him once. Maybe Tiffany had tricked him. After all, she was a master at pretending.
Charles was really innocent in all this, and now, she was the one taking advantage of him.
After a few moments of silence, Alicia finally said to Harvey, “Doctor Johnson, thank you.”
Harvey looked a bit puzzled. “Why did you thank me?”

Chapter 129
“Thank you for telling me all this. I understand now. I really do owe Mr. Yates,” Alicia said quietly.
Harvey was at a loss for words.

He thought. That’s totally not what I was going for. Shouldn’t she be at least a little moved by all this? Or maybe even falling head over heels for Charles right now?
If Charles ever heard I made her feel indebted to him, he’d probably come after me for real!
Harvey paused, racking his brain for something to smooth things over, but before he could say a word, they’d pulled up to their destination.
He could only stop the car and get out together with Alicia.
When they arrived at the police station, the whole Lawrence family was still there. As Alicia walked in, their expressions shifted, some cold, some wary, some openly hostile.
Hugh kept a calm facade, but the warning in his eyes was impossible to miss.
Tiffany fumed with resentment, unwilling to say a word. She just shot Alicia a bitter, hateful glare.
Aaron looked conflicted, caught up in his own tangled thoughts.
Andrew and Archie rushed over, practically shouting, “Alicia, what is wrong with you? Faking your own death? And now you’ve dragged us down to the police station. Have you lost it or something?”
“Yeah, do you have a screw loose? You made that whole huge fire. Are you nuts?” Archie jumped in, his tone dripping with irritation.
They started tearing into Alicia without holding back.
Harvey instinctively stepped in front of Alicia to shield her, his eyes icy as he stared down Andrew and Archie. He scoffed, “Where did these two brainless idiots come from?”
Andrew and Archie were stunned. After all, they were part of the Lawrence family, always used to people sucking up to them. Nobody had ever dared insult them to their faces before.
Instantly, their faces flushed with anger. They rolled up their sleeves, ready to throw punches.
Hugh was almost driven crazy by his two sons. If looks could kill, they’d be toast right now.
“They are so stupid. Who the hell tries to pick a fight in a police station?’ Hugh thought, exasperated.
He tried stepping forward to stop them, but before he could get a word out, two cops swooped in and grabbed the guys. “Hey! What do you think you’re doing? Trying to start a brawl in here?”
With the officers pinning them down, Andrew and Archie finally snapped back to reality, looking dumbstruck as they realized they were actually at the police station.

Andrew was still defiant, mumbling under his breath, “He was the one who started talking trash, not me”
The cop’s hold tightened. “Stop it.”
Kolby stepped out of his office and called out to Harvey and Alicia, “Mr. Johnson, Miss Lawrence, please come
with me.”
Harvey shot Andrew a cold glare and then kept Alicia close as they followed Kolby into the office.
Once they stepped inside, Kolby gave Harvey a quick rundown. He explained that Aaron had admitted to everything, but claimed it was only a harmless prank between siblings.
Alicia wasn’t shocked at all. As the Lawrence family’s adopted daughter, she’d always been the perfect shield. for them whenever they needed someone to take the fall. Whatever happened to her, it got brushed off as just family business or a harmless prank between siblings.
Hugh never got involved, so everyone figured he’d be safe from blame. But what really took Alicia by surprise. was that Hugh chose to sacrifice Aaron. She thought Tiffany would be the one he let go.
It turned out that Hugh truly doted on Tiffany. For her sake, he was even willing to throw his own eldest son under the bus.
Alicia wondered to herself, a hint of doubt flickering in her mind, ‘But is Hugh really cutting Aaron loose for good?
He is probably just trying to cover his own skin and protect the Lawrence family for now, planning to figure out a way to bail Aaron out later.
‘Let’s see if he can really pull it off. Aaron was the one who had actually hurt Charles.
As for Tiffany, I have something big planned for her.’
