Yet now, standing outside the gates of Wendy’s estate, Cramer felt a rare flicker of hesitation.

Vivian was Wendy’s pawn. If she left him for good, it would be the cleanest solution.

He knew this.

But when she truly walked away, it felt as if something that belonged to him had slipped through his grasp.

Mr. Cullinan, are you certain about this?the secretary asked carefully.

Vivian had barely left and here was Cramer chasing her. It reeked of a trapWendy’s trap. Could they really afford to give her this satisfaction?

But Cramer ignored the caution. He stepped out of the car without a word, leaving the secretary no choice but to follow.

The guard at the gate blinked in surprise. Mr. Cullinan? At this hour? You should have notified us firstmadam isn’t home at the moment.

I’m here for Vivian,Cramer said coldly.

The guard shifted uneasily. Unfortunately, Miss Vivian left with madam earlier this morning. They won’t return until tonight. Perhaps you could come back then?

It was a polite refusal, nothing more than a closed door.

Cramer’s gaze hardened. Think carefully. If I leave now, I won’t return tonight.

Sir, I swear, neither of them are here. It’s not an excuse.

Very well. Remember your words.

With that, Cramer turned on his heel and strode back to the car, his expression like stone.

The secretary caught the storm brewing in his eyes. Sir, are we truly just leaving it at this?

Upstairs in the estate, Vivian stood at the tall window, watching the car depart. Her eyes shimmered with disappointment. She had been thrilled to see Cramer come for herbut her godmother had barred her from going down.

Why?she whispered.

Wendy’s smile was calm, knowing. Silly girl, don’t you remember what Eliza told you? Men lose interest in what’s too easy to grasp. What they can’t hold ontothat’s what gnaws at them. Eliza and Nolan are helping you. As your mother, I must help too.

Vivian frowned in confusion, struggling to understand.

Trust me,Wendy said softly. He’ll come again. He won’t be able to stay away.”

Vivian didn’t want Cramer upset because of her. But she wanted his affection too much. In the end, she nodded and stayed.

Meanwhile, at Saint Corp-

Mr. Cullinan, this project has dragged on far too long. I recommend we move forward without delay.

Mr. Cullinan?

The voice jolted him. He realized every executive in the room was staring at him expectantly.

He rubbed his brow. “Do as you proposed.”

But sir, the specific details-

I said, do as you proposed.

The executives exchanged wary glances and let it drop. One by one, they filed out.

When the room was empty, the secretary stepped closer. Sir, your low blood sugar still hasn’t recovered. Please take a few days to rest. The other executives can manage the workload. We’ve already removed Wendy’s people from the companythere’s no urgent risk at the moment.
